Chinese New Year - Olivia Liu (20198231)
Chinese New Year or Lunar new year is the most important holiday in the Chinese community. (The Chinese New Year is based upon the Chinese lunar calendar.) Last year, I spent my CNY here with my friends and family. We performed the lion dance in the China towns of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Den Haag. Back in Hong Kong, I usually have family reunion feast on CNY eve. The elders give red packets to the kids as a blessing to the new year. During CNY, the go-to phrase is ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’ in Mandarin or ‘Gong Hey Fat Choy’ in Cantonese. This means ‘Hope you get rich’! BUT! This year I wish everyone ‘San Tai Gin Hong’ in Cantonese, which means ‘Wish you a good health’!
