Prof. dr Michael Erkens nieuwe Rector Magnificus

Het College van Bestuur van Nyenrode Business Universiteit kondigt de benoeming aan van prof. dr. Michael Erkens tot Rector Magnificus, met ingang van 1 april. Met zijn komst is het College van Bestuur weer compleet en bestaat het, naast Erkens, uit Micky Adriaansens (Bestuursvoorzitter), Jolanda Lamse-Minderhoud (CFO).

Michael Erkens studeerde wiskunde met een major in finance en promoveerde summa cum laude in Financial Accounting aan de Universität Trier in Duitsland. Sinds 2014 was hij eerst Assistant Professor en later Associate Professor aan de Erasmus School of Economics in Rotterdam. 

In 2022 werd Erkens benoemd tot hoogleraar Corporate Reporting aan Nyenrode Business Universiteit, waar hij later Director van zowel het Center for Corporate Reporting, Finance & Tax als het Center for Accounting, Auditing & Control werd. 

Erkens deed internationale ervaring op, onder andere bij HEC Paris in Frankrijk, WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management in Duitsland, Anton de Kom Universiteit in Suriname en de Booth School of Business van de University of Chicago in de V.S.

Met de benoeming van Erkens versterkt Nyenrode haar internationale academische positie als business universiteit. De focus ligt daarbij op de verdere ontwikkeling van het onderwijsaanbod (degree, MBA en executive education) en op het vergroten van de kwaliteit en zichtbaarheid van onderzoek. Innovatie en aansluiting op maatschappelijke en technologische ontwikkelingen staan hierin centraal. 

Deze koers sluit aan bij Nyenrode’s missie om responsible leaders te vormen en als bruggenbouwer te fungeren tussen wetenschap en praktijk, tussen disciplines, tussen faculteiten en tussen de universiteit en de samenleving.

The University Board of Nyenrode Business University announces the appointment of Prof. Dr. Michael Erkens as Rector Magnificus, effective April 1. With his appointment, the University Board is once again complete and, in addition to Erkens, consists of Micky Adriaansens (Chair of the University Board) and Jolanda Lamse-Minderhoud (CFO).

Michael Erkens studied mathematics with a major in finance and obtained his PhD summa cum laude in Financial Accounting from Universität Trier in Germany. Since 2014, he has served first as Assistant Professor and later as Associate Professor at the Erasmus School of Economics in Rotterdam. 

In 2022, Erkens was appointed Professor of Corporate Reporting at Nyenrode Business University, where he later became Director of both the Center for Corporate Reporting, Finance & Tax and the Center for Accounting, Auditing & Control. 

Erkens has gained international experience at institutions including HEC Paris in France, WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Germany, Anton de Kom University in Suriname, and the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago in the United States.

With the appointment of Erkens, Nyenrode strengthens its international academic position as a business university. The focus is on further developing its educational portfolio (degree programs, MBA, and executive education) and increasing the quality and visibility of research. Innovation and alignment with societal and technological developments are central to this effort. 

This direction aligns with Nyenrode’s mission to educate responsible leaders and to act as a bridge builder between science and practice, across disciplines, between faculties, and between the university and society.
