Lifetime Achievement Award for alumnus Henk de Heus (19610035)

On Monday, October 25, entrepreneur Henk de Heus (19610035) received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Nyenrode Business University in the Ridderzaal of Nijenrode Castle. “The Spirit of Enterprise Lifetime Achievement Award is a justifiable recognition for business performance and shows that a Nyenrode study is a reward for life,” said Dr. ir. Henk Kievit, faculty director of Nyenrode Center for Entrepreneurship, Governance & Stewardship.

Henk de Heus, after graduating in 1961 from the Netherlands Opleidingsinstituut voor het Buitenland (N.O.I.B.), the direct predecessor of Nyenrode Business University, became the third generation at the helm of family business De Heus. He managed to expand the cattle feed company from a local business to a world-class player. De Heus now supplies around 10 million tons of animal feed in 70 countries.

Henk de Heus is the sixth recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in the history of Nyenrode. Previous recipients were George Keune (2010), alumnus Deo van Wijk (2010), Roland Kahn (2012) and alumni Gerry Staartjes (posthumously in 2013) and Frank van Wezel (2016).
Descendant of a castle owner, art lover and donor

Henk de Heus is a descendant of Utrecht entrepreneur Willem Hendricus de Heus (1808-1872), who bought Nijenrode Castle in 1854. The enterprising De Heus-Zomer couple are great art lovers and have been collecting art since the early 1990s.

At the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Henk de Heus was presented with a restored painting of his ancestor Willem Hendricus. This painting was made by alumnus Adriaan Rooymans. It will be placed between portraits of other castle owners in the vestibule of the castle. In addition, extensive attention was paid to the painting "Still Life with Poultry, Fish and Vegetables". This painting dates from the middle of the 17th century and has hung above the fireplace in the Ridderzaal for many years. Henk de Heus and his wife Victoria de Heus-Zomer made the restoration of the painting possible and the Nyenrode Foundation is extremely grateful to the couple for this restoration.
